Meet our Faculty and Staff

  • Susan Romero - Principal

    Mrs. Romero graduated from Immaculate Heart High School and completed her undergraduate work at CSUN. She holds a Master’s Degree in Reading and Curriculum Development and a Master’s degree in Catholic School Administration. She holds a Multi Subject Teaching Credential, a Single Subject Teaching Credential in English and Art, and an Administrative Services Credential. Mrs. Romero believes that leadership is not something done in isolation, but as a community of people united for a common goal. Her belief is that Catholic education lays a foundation of truth, love and holiness. Knowledge and faith combine allowing Catholic schools to form our learners in these qualities to be a positive influence and continue to bestow these intangibles to future generations.

  • Lidia Gallegos - TK and Kindergarten

    Lidia Gallegos is beyond thankful to be part of the St. James-Holy Redeemer community.  Ms. Gallegos attended St. Andrew Elementary School in Pasadena and La Salle High School.  She attended university at USF in San Francisco.  Ms. Gallegos received a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in education, and an M.A. in Education. She also received her teaching credential. School was always a place where she felt safe so choosing to be a teacher was a no-brainer. When she is not lesson planning, she is eating, dancing, or just hanging out with family and friends.

  • Christy Davila - 1st Grade

    Christy Davila was born in Los Angeles. She attended Holy Trinity Elementary School, Holy Family High School,CSULA, USD and Pepperdine University.  Mrs. Davila believes that her faith in God's providence has blessed her with the strength of raising her children while obtaining a B.A. in Child Development, a BCLAD in Spanish, a MA in Education, and a M.S. in School Administration. Mrs. Davila served as a Religious Education catechist is currently she is a faith formation catechist at her home parish. She has been an educator and a mentor to new teachers for over 20 years.  She feels blessed to be a part of the St. James- Holy Redeemer community.

  • Kathleen Evans - 2nd Grade

    Mrs. Evans joined the SJHR faculty in the fall of 2019. She received her B.A. from UCLA and her credential from CSUN. Prior to coming to SJHR, Mrs. Evans taught at a Catholic school for nine years. She has served as a mentor, and coach for Academic Decathlon.  

  • Erika Fraire - 3rd Grade

    Ms. Erika Fraire received her B.A. in Spanish from California State University of Los Angeles. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in Business Administration from Woodbury University and is currently completing her Multiple Subject Credential at Loyola Marymount University.  Ms. Fraire taught Spanish as a single subject before teaching 3rd grade full-time. Ms. Fraire enjoys reading, teaching Sunday school, and loves learning about different cultures around the world.

  • Christina Yamasaki - 4th Grade

    Ms. Yamasaki is a Southern California native and is also the product of Catholic schools. She attended Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary for K-8, and then went to Mayfield Senior School. She attributes much of her passion for being a Catholic educator to her own Catholic education. Interestingly, Ms. Yamasaki did not originally plan to be a teacher! She spent roughly 7 years in the food service industry, managing and opening several top rated Los Angeles area restaurants and food trucks, when she realized she wanted to do something more meaningful. She is currently enjoying her role as the 4th grade and middle school Spanish teacher here at SJHR. Ms. Yamasaki has a BA in Music from Occidental College and teaching credential and MA in Education from Loyola Marymount University. When she has free time, she goes running or to dance class, and is a Confirmation catechist at her home parish.

  • Maureen Moran - 5th Grade

    Maureen Moran joined the St. James faculty in 2009.  Mrs. Moran's magical kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Hood, inspired her to pursue a career teaching primary school. "This is not a job," she explains, "it is a joy. I love to teach. I love children. All of my life I just knew I would be a teacher."  Mrs. Moran believes all children can learn and she in turn, enjoys learning from them. When she's not in the classroom she is with her family. Mrs. Moran  holds a doctorate degree and earned her Bachelors of Science degree and teaching credential at California State University , Northridge ( CSUN).

  • Christopher Currer - 6th Grade Homeroom

    Literature and Language Arts 6-7-8

    In his spare time when he is not teaching, coaching, or tutoring, he stays busy. He can often be found training for various triathlon and other ultra- endurance events, walking his two pups in the neighborhood, playing softball, listening to music, reading a good book, or simply hanging out with family and friends.

  • Claudia Olmedo - 7th Grade Homeroom

    Math and Science 6-7-8

    Claudia Olmedo has been a parishoner of St. James - Holy Redeemer since she was a child.  Ms. Olmedo volunteered with both parishes with Edge (middle school youth ministry) and Lifeteen (high school youth ministry).  Ms. Olmedo received her B.A. in Liberal Studies from CSUN and is pursuing her graduate degree from Loyola Marymount University.  From a young age, Ms. Olmedo was interested in teaching and has worked with multiple grades at SJHR.  On her free time, Ms. Olmedo loves to travel, read, and camp.

  • Lisa Knatcal - 8th Grade Homeroom



    Social Studies


    Lisa Knatcal is a product of Catholic education and has been teaching in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles since 1997.  In addition to teaching 8th Grade, Mrs. Knatcal is also Vice Principal, moderates student council, and serves as Religion Coordinator.  Mrs. Knatcal holds a multiple subject credential and Master's Degree in Elementary Education as well as a Master's Degree in Catholic School Administration from Loyola Marymount University.  She also teaches part-time at LMU in the School of Education.  Mrs. Knatcal is married to a teacher and they enjoy exploring her home town, Los Angeles, during their free time.

  • Gino Camatti - Music, Violin and Guitar

    Mr. Camatti has taught at SJHR for 20 years. He teaches music, including voice, violin and guitar.  Born and raised in Los Angeles area, Mr. Camatti was Jesuit trained from high school through college. He studied music at Immaculate Heart college and in New York City.
